NAVAJO RUG "STORM" PEYOTE
WORD CHART
Mini-Tapestry
$7.50

This peyote stitch mini-tapestry depicts a Navajo rug in the "Storm" pattern.

A color key is included. The pattern is shown in an enlarged graph as well as the word chart.

The Storm Pattern probably originated in the early 1900's. In Navajo mythology, man and all living things came to this world from the underworld through the Lake of Emergence, symbolized by the central design in these rugs. The squares in the four corners represent the Navajo's four sacred mountains. The lines represent lightning bolts which carry blessings back and forth between the mountains, bestowing good spirits on the weaver and her household.
